If you’ve been craving a slower, simpler way to build your business… You’re not alone.
I spent years thinking I had to “do it all” to succeed online — post constantly, launch every month, burn out to feel worthy. But the truth is, the more I simplified… the more aligned everything became.
My business started growing when I gave myself permission to stop chasing, and start creating something that actually fit the life I wanted.
So in this post, I want to walk you through what it really looks like to build a soft, sustainable online business — one that makes money and leaves space for slow mornings, mid-week walks, and being a human first.
This is your soft girl CEO era. Let’s build it on your terms.
Step 1: Find Your Niche
Before you can build your dream business, you need to know where you fit — your special corner of the online world. That’s your niche.
But don’t overthink it. Your niche isn’t just a trendy label or a fancy marketing term. It’s simply the space where your passions, skills, and unique voice come together.
For example, saying “I’m a lifestyle blogger” is pretty broad. But if you narrow it down to “slow living for busy moms” or “simple self-care routines for creatives,” suddenly your message becomes clearer. That clarity helps you attract the right people — the ones who actually want what you have to offer.
If you’re struggling to find your niche, try asking yourself:
- What topics do I get lost in for hours?
- What problems do my friends or family come to me for advice about?
- What kind of content could I happily create every day without worrying about money?
Answering these questions will help you see where you naturally shine — and where your soft girl CEO business should begin.
Step 2: Pick one main platform to show up on
You don’t need to “be everywhere.” In fact, that’s a great way to burn out and give up.
Choose one platform where you actually like spending time — whether it’s Threads, Pinterest, YouTube, or Instagram. Somewhere that feels low-pressure and aligned with your energy.
That platform becomes your base. It’s where you’ll share your ideas, grow your audience, and talk about your future offer.
For me, it was Threads. I posted consistently, shared thoughts about soft online income and freedom, and grew my email list from those posts. I stopped recording videos. I didn’t post on Instagram. I just kept showing up on the one platform that felt good for me.

Step 3: Create a freebie that helps people and grows your email list
The next step is to create a simple, valuable freebie. Something people can download in exchange for their email address.
This could be:
- a short PDF guide
- a mini template
- a journaling prompt
- a checklist or starter roadmap
Make sure it’s related to the topic your future paid offer will cover. That way, you’re attracting the right people to your list — not just random freebie hunters.
Your freebie doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to solve a tiny, clear problem and feel useful.
That’s what gets people to say “yes” and join your list.
Step 4: Create a small digital product you actually enjoy selling
You don’t need to start with a $997 course. In fact, you shouldn’t.
Start with something small and clear — like a $17 digital template, a $37 guide, or a $97 mini-course or playbook.
It should solve one specific problem or help someone reach one small transformation.
The first product I sold was a $27 ebook that showed people how to grow and start an email list like mine. It wasn’t complicated. But it was clear, valuable, and aligned with the people already on my list.
You can create your offer in a Google Doc. Or record a Loom video. Or design a PDF on Canva.
Keep it light and doable — and focus on helping your perfect buyers.
Step 5: Build a simple email funnel that quietly sells for you
Once your freebie and product are ready, it’s time to set up a simple funnel.
This just means: when someone signs up for your freebie, they’ll get a few emails that introduce you, build trust, and invite them to check out your offer.
Here’s a basic 3–4 email sequence you can follow:
- Welcome email – Deliver the freebie and tell them what to expect.
- Personal story – Share how you started and what you struggled with. Make it relatable.
- Value email – Teach something helpful and introduce your paid offer.
- Soft pitch – Give them a reason to check it out now (like a 72-hour coupon or bonus).
You can write these in a Google Doc and use a simple email tool like Flodesk, MailerLite, or ConvertKit to automate them.
Step 6: Show up and drive traffic to your funnel
Now that everything is in place — it’s time to start bringing people in.
You don’t need to go viral or post 24/7. You just need a few consistent traffic sources that help you grow your list week by week.
Some ways to do this:
- Post helpful or relatable content on Threads with a freebie link in your bio
- Write blog posts and pin them on Pinterest
- Repurpose your content into pins, carousels, or short posts
- Talk about your offer often — especially in stories, posts, and replies
The goal is to help people discover your world and give them an easy way to step inside (your freebie).
Once they’re on your list, your funnel takes care of the rest.
