How Kim Turned Her Passion for Decluttering into a Growing Online Business

Welcome to the very first Playbook Student Spotlight!

If you’ve ever wondered how to turn a personal passion into a business you can grow online — this series is for you. I’ll be handing the microphone to my students so they can share what they’re building, what inspired them, and their best advice for anyone starting out.

And today, I’m excited to introduce you to Kim Tremblay from Space For You – Clear The Clutter, Heal Your Life.

Kim is a Virtual Professional Organizer who works with women over 45 who feel overwhelmed by a lifetime of memories and belongings.

She’s building a business that doesn’t just organize homes — it helps women emotionally let go, heal, and create space for the life they want now.

From Passion to Purpose

Kim’s story started with a simple but powerful truth: clutter isn’t just physical. It’s emotional, too.

Many of the women she works with aren’t just dealing with overstuffed closets or messy basements.

They’re holding on to years of memories, guilt, and indecision. Kim saw this need clearly, and instead of offering a “one-size-fits-all” approach, she leaned into creating something softer and more supportive.

Her dream? To build an online support group program that runs in 8-week sessions, giving women community, accountability, and encouragement to let go of what no longer serves them.

Step 1: Defining a Specific Audience

One of the biggest challenges for new business owners is trying to help everyone.

Kim avoided that by getting very specific about who she wanted to serve: women 45+ who feel overwhelmed by physical and emotional clutter.

That clarity helps her create content and services that speak directly to her ideal client’s real struggles. Instead of trying to appeal broadly, she creates with one person in mind — the woman who wants to downsize, simplify, and finally feel in control of her space again.

If you’re just starting out, take a note from Kim: narrowing your audience makes your work more impactful.

Step 2: Showing Up Consistently and Authentically

When Kim first started, she admits she held back. She stayed quiet for years instead of taking risks. Looking back, she wishes she had put herself out there sooner.

But that shifted when she gave herself permission to show up authentically. Today, she’s sharing more openly through her blog, Instagram, and Facebook community — places where she not only offers tips but also talks honestly about her own struggles and experiences.

That consistency is key.

By showing up regularly, she’s building trust. And by being vulnerable, she’s building connection.

Step 3: Creating a Freebie That Feels Like a Gift

To grow her email list and build deeper connections, Kim created her Wardrobe Refresh Guide — a simple, practical resource that helps women downsize their wardrobes and get dressed with ease.

It’s small and specific, which is exactly why it works. Instead of overwhelming her audience with a huge ebook or course, she gives them one clear win they can achieve right away.

For women who feel stuck, this is a confidence boost.

And there’s a bigger business lesson here: a freebie isn’t just a “list-building tactic.” It’s an introduction. When someone gets value from your free content, they’re much more likely to trust you with their paid journey.

Kim’s guide is the first step in showing her audience that change is possible — and that she’s the right guide to help them through it.

What Beginners Can Learn from Kim

If you’re at the very beginning of your online business journey, here are a few takeaways from Kim’s path so far:

  • Don’t be afraid to start small: Kim began with a simple freebie — and it’s already growing her community.
  • Get specific: Serving “everyone” often means serving no one. Kim knows exactly who she’s speaking to.
  • Be real: Sharing your own challenges builds more trust than pretending you have it all figured out.

As Kim says herself: “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there if you are starting a business. I wish I had taken more risks. I stayed very quiet in the first number of years I was doing this work.”

Try It for Yourself

If Kim’s story is sparking something in you, here’s how you can begin applying the same steps in your own way.

Start by getting really clear on who you want to help. Not just “women who need organization” or “people who want to get healthy,” but something more specific.

Think about their struggles in detail: What are they stuck on? What do they dream about fixing? The more specific you are, the easier it becomes to create content and offers that feel like they’re speaking directly to that one person.

Then, pick one platform where you’ll show up consistently. It doesn’t matter if it’s YouTube, a blog, Threads, or Instagram.

Then, pick one platform where you’ll show up consistently. It doesn’t matter if it’s a blog, Threads, Instagram, or YouTube.

The platform isn’t as important as your presence. Kim uses her blog, Instagram, and community group because they give her space to explain, connect, and share her personality. For you, it might be video instead of writing.

The key is consistency and being willing to let people see the real you.

Finally, think about creating a simple freebie. Not a huge course, not something that takes you months to build.

Just a small, clear resource that gives your audience a quick win.

Kim’s Wardrobe Refresh Guide wasn’t complicated, but it solved a real pain point and helped her people feel immediate relief. That’s the kind of thing that builds trust and gets people excited to learn more from you.

And here’s the most important reminder: it doesn’t need to be perfect. Your first freebie, your first video, your first blog post — none of it has to look polished or flawless.

What matters is starting. Each step teaches you something, and each step brings you closer to building a business that feels like you.

Final Thoughts

Kim’s story is a reminder that you don’t need to chase trends or do what everyone else is doing. By leaning into her passion and building a business that feels aligned with her, she’s creating something sustainable and deeply meaningful.

And that’s what all matters.
